You will only need a tripod if you are not holding the camera when you are taking the photo. This may be due to the heavy weight of your camera. Here are something to note when buying a tripod:
1) Consider the weight rating. If the tripod cannot support your computer, then there is not reason in buying it
2) The Height of Tripod should be one that you are comfortable with. It should not be taller or shorter than you significantly
3) Stability—Don't fall all the time, or else the camera will be damaged
4) And finally, the price also matters.
